MATRIX Application Framework

Brochure:

The tool for the full spectrum of the industrial automation

Matrix is a modular, scalable application framework for the full spectrum of industrial automation.

The individual modules are based on Microsoft SQL Server database and a high performance standardized communication system. On this solid basis, it is possible to efficiently and easily manage even complex distributed production procedures. Each interface module, which constitutes a self-contained functionality, possesses a standardized but still flexible interface with the MATRIX framework. The entire application was designed to be a .Net web application. It can be run and used from any computer within the network and does not require installation on these computers.

Moreover it is possible to integrate conventional SCADA systems such as WinCC or InTouch from client computers into the framework application. Besides a range of standard modules such as alarm and event management, trending, statistic process controlling (SPC), material tracking system (MTS) or recipe management, individual custom-made modules (e.g. for process data recording and evaluation) or cross-equipment logistic and control circuits are created. MATRIX enables the creation of integrated solutions for industrial automation. Historical barriers between each separate level of the automation pyramid no longer exist.

MATRIX Conception

The integrated and cost-effective MATRIX automation solutions are based on a continuous infrastructure that is available anytime and anywhere and has the following features:
  • Modularity
The MATRIX functionalities are strictly modular in structure (service oriented programming). Logic and surface of the MATRIX system are separate.
  • Communication
Data exchange among every module of the MATRIX application is provided by an IPC server, a message oriented communication system that is based on a Publisher/Subscriber Technology.
  • Data Management
The Microsoft SQL server is used as the preferred database management system. Any database access is done by stored procedures (editable online).
  • User Interface
Modular and uniform MATRIX architecture and Smart Client technology make it possible to use existing user interfaces (surfaces) within the complete network or, if necessary, online as well.

MATRIX is based on a number of key components with clearly defined functionality. Every program involved in the complete application can be run on any computer. Thus MATRIX has an extremely scalable architecture. MATRIX application framework is designed based on the idea of service oriented architecture (SOA). The loose connection of the services via the message based communication system makes it possible to easily realize complex, distributed applications independent of the technical platforms on which they are based. Basic services of the MATRIX system only need elemental operation functionalities and therefore ensure a long operating time of the system, independent of updates and version changes of the operation system.

Advantages of MATRIX

  • Economic efficiency
By using a system infrastructure when creating an application, the purchasing costs of the system are lower. The fact of being largely independent of other software products guarantees a long life cycle of the MATRIX system.
  • Handling
MATRIX ensures simple, robust and fast handling. Because of an efficient use of resources, MATRIX can also be used for very large quantity structures.
  • Scalability and flexibility
Problem oriented architecture ensures easy realization of complex, distributed applications. As a result of the modular structure of MATRIX, it can be flexibly expanded. The total application is made available in the network depending on the user or the application.
Single components of the user interface can be optionally arranged. Views can be hidden, connected with others, separated and placed on the top of each other, so that the desktop always appears neat and clear and that those visualization elements most important to the user are in focus.
Functions of the MATRIX system can be extended at any time. With the aid of the expansive infrastructure, it is possible to create services and applications that are individualized and specific to the requirement of each application.
  • Openness
MATRIX´ s openness assures easy access to data saved in the system.
All available data in MATRIX can be exported to MS Excel and thus be made available to external applications for further processing.
Data, saved in MATRIX, is provided to ERP-systems (e.g. SAP or DynamicsNAV). External applications use that data and information for allocating costs and billing, in production planning and controlling, ordering systems, maintenance, strategic, cooperate planning etc.
  • Independency
The fact that MATRIX is independent of software systems of different manufacturers guarantees that the system is in operation for a long time. There are no forced system changes because of operation system updates. Realization of any requirement is not limited by software systems.
